We are building an open source open world role-playing game. For PC. Free, forever, under GPLv3.

Bazaar Initiative creates an open world role-playing game in a fantasy key, designed for PC. It is being built openly, from the first sketch to the last commit, by a small group of writers, artists, programmers, and sound designers working across time zones.
The game is GPLv3-licensed. The art is shared. The world is wide. There is no roadmap written in a boardroom - only a growing forest of contributions, each one reviewed, merged, signed by a real person.
The world is being drawn first, designed second. A composer sketches a theme for a region that does not yet have a name; a writer drafts a quest for a character who has not yet been modeled; a programmer builds the weather system before any tree has been placed. The pieces find each other slowly, in the open, on the repository.
"A game made in the open cannot be killed by a single quarterly meeting."
The decision to keep this open was the first decision we made. Everything else - the world, the combat, the music - came after. Below is the long version of why.
No publisher sits between the team and the player. No micro-transactions, no live-service contract, no roadmap dictated by quarterly earnings. The game belongs to the people making it.
An open codebase is a workshop. Want to prototype a strange new dialogue system? A weather simulation that takes mood into account? A combat stance nobody has tried? Branch it, push it, see if it breathes.
Every contribution is a public artifact with your name on it. Composers ship a track, level designers ship a region, writers ship a quest line - all of it visible on the repository, all of it yours to carry forward.
A proprietary game can be killed by its publisher. An open source game is forkable. As long as one contributor wants to keep the world alive, the world stays alive.
Any experience, any timezone, any background. We will read every letter. The roles below are not gates - they are starting points.
Write a few sentences about what you'd like to make. Link your work if you have it. Say hello - there's no application form, no test, no deadline.
